gs[3] - Spine support corset based on neural network
Snezhana Paderina and Nikita Replyanski created a corset with a dynamically changing back support level based on a neural network that has no analogues in the world.
— The goal of GS3 is to reinvent the orthopedic corset so that people can have support for the spine with a wide range of mobility, and also look good when using it. We analyzed a number of limitations and drawbacks in the products already developed and found that they are too heavy, fettered and made of inappropriate materials.

Flexibility of the spine and «smart» behavior is achieved by integrating a neural network from 3D print components. Physical rehabilitation before full muscle recovery can take several months, so the patient's needs will vary depending on the stage of recovery. Over time, the GS3 neural network recognizes the owner's typical behavior and corresponds to these unique movements within the limits set by the physician. Interaction with GS3 is convenient due to the mobile application and carefully balanced UX.
Using the data obtained by the integrated neural network, the GS3 cable mechanism can easily and accurately adjust the stiffness and support level of the person's back.

The main mechanism of GS3 is the cable system, encased in 3D printed moving blocks.
SNEZHANA
— For us, this project has become an opportunity to develop and promote an auxiliary rehabilitation device in the fashion plane. We carefully designed the corset. All materials used maintain a delicate balance between functionality and appearance. Fashion is a language, a means of conveying social and cultural codes. By placing the corset in the fashion context, we sought to normalize the use of rehabilitation tools and medical devices.
NIKITA
— Having developed the concept of the active part of the corset, we created a parametric 3D model in Fusion 360 for the forthcoming 3D printing. At this stage, we already tried to maximize the possibility of changing the model for the anatomical features of future customers. We also tried to find the simplest mechanical solutions to improve the reliability of the device. Combining all of the above with the overall concept of the product, we managed to create a holistic image of a futuristic smart device to support the back, which today has no direct analogues.
A high degree of GS3 comfort comes from carefully selected,
high-performance technological fabrics and its structure of anatomical shape.
After initial training, the corset is ready for automatic work - it provides maximum support throughout the day. For users undergoing rehabilitation, this helps reduce the projected recovery schedule.

In the development of [GS] 3, we adhered to the concept of a biased emphasis in design, so that active prostheses looked like cool gadgets, not medical devices.
